TESTIMONIALS

Through the establishment of the multi-centric T1D registry, it is expected that initially around 550 patients will be provided with direct treatment support every year. This will be expanded to close to 1000 patients over 5 years depending on program success and funding availability. The support will consist of investigations and insulin support. The cohort of T1D patients would be one of its kind and one of the largest groups of T1D patients in one common philanthropic program, anywhere in India.

Here are some inspiring stories of those living with T1D shared by our partner hospitals.

"For the past one year, the Hinduja Foundation has been supporting my treatment. I get all the medicines, strips, check-ups and even the sensor, free of cost. Thanks to the sensor, they can track my sugar levels regularly and this has helped in regulating my diet as well as my lifestyle. My family's financial condition is not good but this timely help has helped me continue my studies. Since I get free treatment, I can afford to buy school books and other educational material. I am grateful to the Hinduja Foundation."

Then I came to know about the treatment at KEM Hospital. Today, my son gets treatment free of cost and we are regularly updated about his health status. "In 2014, I was lying on a hospital bed trying to absorb what life had thrown at me. I was admitted with a severe viral infection and an unexpected diagnosis of Type 1 diabetes (T1D), with a blood glucose level of 384. I was a mere a skeleton weighing 28 kg! The difficulty was not only in thinking but also in breathing. What the hell did T1D even mean? From that day on, it's been a huge roller-coaster. #Diabetes has changed my perception towards life. It has taught me to love myself and to be grateful for each moment; to be friends with pain (or at least try); to love the body I have been given just the way it is and never to take anything for granted. Diabetes gives me scars every day, but it played a huge role in healing the ones that were on my heart. From failing on an epic scale to recently trekking all the way to Sinhgad Fort in Pune with my T1 buddies. From depression to divorce, I have survived it all."

"It came, it saw, but it could not conquer because it was dealing with a tough opponent, ie ME! I was five years old when I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes (T1D). Over time, diabetes and I signed a peace treaty: “Let us become friends and learn to respect each other.” I was counselled by my parents and doctors on maintaining a lifelong friendship with #diabetes. As I grew older, so did my friend grow with me. My passion to learn more about it introduced me to other diabetic friends online. We understood things about each other that others could not. Along the way, I made another friendship of a lifetime with the person who is today my husband. It’s been 40 years of living with diabetes. I win and I lose on this roller-coaster ride, but now I realise that the sweetness, so deeply inherent in us, is there to be shared with everyone."

"Prathamesh has always been a hardworking and intelligent child. After he was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D), he would worry a lot about his sugar levels, which would then rise further due to the stress! With the help of doctors and medical staff, we were able to get his sugars under control and with a lot of counselling his stress was also reduced. He is very active in his school, loves working on science projects and wins a lot of competitions. He is very careful about his diet too—here he is drinking his favorite palak soup."

"I had just started my career as a software engineer and I was excited to give my heart and soul to what I was doing—then diabetes happened. I was devastated but with time, I gathered the courage to put myself together again. Getting introduced to ClubOne KEM changed my life. I am forever grateful to the wonderful community of Type1s I have met and the doctors of KEM. I feel liberated and so much more confident now. I’ve gone scuba diving, on a trip with friends to the US and done a 100km walkathon, all while enjoying my full-time job in IT. The moral of the story? Nothing, not even diabetes, can stop you from making the most of this one life god has given you."
